NORTHFIELD - Discussion about property for a new city liquor store is moving in two directions.
The City Council on Monday approved a plan to find a site for a new store. Next week, they'll talk about walking away from a property previously considered.
The council, at a special meeting planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday, will discuss abandoning property at 600 Division St., a one-time candidate for a new store.
If the council agrees to remove the property from its consideration, it would allow the city to release tapes of two closed-session meetings held last spring. Those meetings were called to discuss formulating an offer to purchase property for a new liquor store. Two sites were then under consideration, both in the 600 block of Division Street.
A parcel adjacent to the Econofoods grocery store was withdrawn from consideration by its owners, city officials have said. The 600 Division St. site is owned by Paul Norby and David Lansing, the son of Mayor Lee Lansing.
