| Thousands awarded in grants from Grace Whittier Fund |

NORTHFIELD - More than $10,000 in grant money will be distributed to six local groups who offer recreational opportunities to Northfield area youth.
The money comes from the Grace Whittier Fund, created in 1988 from a $250,000 gift from the estate of longtime Northfield resident Grace Whittier. All awards were approved by the city council.
Groups, dollar amounts awarded and project descriptions are as follows:
Northfield Union of Youth ($1,000), cooking class
Northfield Youth Choirs ($2,000), scholarship program
Northfield School District ($7,500), Summer Ventures
Cannon Valley Youth Orchestra ($720), sheet music for two orchestras
Northfield Booster Club ($4,000), fee waivers for middle and high school athletes
Community Action Center of Northfield ($1,000), camp scholarships.
