This poem was written by a young girl during her last week of treatment for heroin addiction.
Goodbye heroin you’ve been my friend for so long
From the first time I had you, your hold on me has been strong
My world lifted up, all pressures were gone
But then something happened and we couldn't get along.
You took away my feelings, I could no longer cry
My dad found me dying and I didn't care why
You took away my sparkle, the gifts God had gave me
I thought we were a team, how deceived you had made me.
I thought you gave me compassion, love and self esteem
In reality I was cold, hateful and mean.
Loved ones were worried and tried to offer their hand
I turned in a second and it was them I couldn't stand.
They look at me scared, worried and afraid
Put the needle to your arm and it will all go away
What do they know they can’t possibly understand
The hold you have on me only God can unhand.
How far will you take me before I throw you away
I don't have much time you can kill me today
It's coming clear to me now all you can hide
Everyone but me can see your evil side.
I chose you over family, friends and myself
This illusion of heaven is actually hell
The truth is you hurt me, scared me and sold me
I only had you but I want my family to hold me.
You've killed before, I know I’m not too late
If I get rid of you I can start living today.
You are slowly dying now and the promises are true
I have love, support and happiness all without you. |
