Janice Kirkeide, 73
Janice C. Kirkeide, age 73, of Northfield, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at the Northfield Retirement Community.

Janice was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Reed) Allen, the youngest of five children. She was raised on the family farm until age 15 when her parents sold their farm and moved to Mankato. Jan graduated from Mankato High School and Mankato State College. On Jan. 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to Edward K. Kirkeide in Mankato, and the couple made their first home in Walters, Minn.

When Edward began working for the airlines they lived one year in Minneapolis, six years in Richfield, then their longtime home Bloomington from 1969-1996. They moved to Northfield in 1996. In addition to raising her family, Jan worked outside the home in accounting at the corporate offices of Country Kitchen and for Burnsville Sports Center. She later began as executive assistant for Federated Insurance in Edina where she worked until retirement in 1998.

Jan and Ed enjoyed traveling to places all over the United States and many foreign destinations. They also liked family camping trips that they started when the kids were young and continued at their lake place at Kamp Dells near Waterville. Jan liked to cook and bake and was known for her excellent food. She was a Minnesota Twins fan and always enjoyed horses and the Kentucky Derby. In her free time she liked to knit, read, sew and crochet. Favorite times were being with her family, grandchildren and friends playing board games and jigsaw puzzles.

Janice is survived by daughters, Kathy (Mark) Strandjord of Malaysia, and Krista (Daniel) Gorman of Farmington; sister, Jennetta Knudson of Albert Lea; son-in-law, Paul Moldenhauer; grandchildren, Heather (Matt Macken) VonBargen, Jereme (Sara) VonBargen, Justin and Vanessa Strandjord, Christopher, William and Charles Rubrich, and Sarah, Emily and Joseph Gorman; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Grace VonBargen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; daughter, Kandis Moldenhauer; brother, Arnold Allen; and sisters, Harriet Vangen and Marie Porisch.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at the chapel of the Northfield Retirement Community, with interment in Fort Snelling Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield, and continues one hour prior to services Wednesday at the chapel.
