Lawrence J. Schmitz, age 68, of Cumberland, Wis., formerly of Northfield, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis.

Larry was born April 8, 1941, in Northfield, to Justin and Cecelia (Jandro) Schmitz. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1959. Larry married Karen Betzold on Feb. 6, 1965, in Northfield, where they lived until moving to Cumberland in 1979. Larry worked as a painter and sheet rocker until moving to Cumberland where he farmed.

Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Schmitz of Cumberland; two sons, Jon of Almena, Wis., and Patrick of Rogers; one daughter, Anne Nyhus of Cumberland; six grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur of Loveland, Colo., David of Plymouth and Richard of Valpariso, Ind.; three sisters, Dorothy Schmidtke of Farmington, Rita Feutchenberger of Plymouth and Joy Malecha of Northfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Cumberland. Burial of cremains will be in East Cumberland Cemetery, Cumberland. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
