Eva Victoria James, age 91, of Northfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Three Links Care Center.

Eva was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Rose Hill, Ill., to Ira and Mina (Gray) Shull. She was raised in Southeast Illinois and graduated from Champaign High School in 1936. Eva married Gerald A. James on March 3, 1939, at Pine Village, Ind. After marriage, the couple lived in various places while Gerald served in the military. Following his discharge they made their home in Urbana and Eva worked as a hairdresser and taught cosmetology at Champaign Beauty School. Gerald died Feb. 3, 1976. Eva retired in 1981, and in June of that year moved to Lonsdale to be near her daughter.

Eva was active with the Northfield Senior Citizens and as a square dancer. She was very active and adventurous and often traveled around the country with her son-in-law, Bob, in his plane. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, quilting, crocheting, gardening and wintering in Arizona.

Eva is survived by her children and their spouses, Donald and Josephine James of Anthem, Ariz., George and Patricia James of Glendale, Ariz., Geraldine and Dominic Cibrario of Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Linda and Robert Peasley of Lonsdale; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Crawford of Burke, Va., and Edna Whitehurst of Wheeler, Ill.; one brother, Burell (Mary) Shull of Hidalgo, Ill.; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Charles.

Graveside services will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Urbana.

Memorials are preferred to the Pathways Unit at Three Links Care Center, 815 Forest Ave., Northfield MN 55057.
