DeKruif announces candidacy for State Senate
Email Print
Elysian resident Al DeKruif has announced he’ll seek an endorsement from the Republican Party for the 25th Minnesota State Senate seat. Senate District 25 includes all of LeSueur County and parts of Rice, Sibley and Scott counties.

That seat is currently held by Northfielder Kevin Dahle.

A business owner and community leader, DeKruif says he’ll bring practical, business experience to the senate. “We need business people in St. Paul who know how to balance a check book and a budget,” he said.

“We are currently the third highest-taxed state in business and corporate taxes,” he said. “We must allow our Minnesota businesses to grow and prosper so they can provide more jobs here. Our state government has to strive to be smaller, more effective and efficient and exist within its means, like we residents have to within our own households.”

DeKruif plans considerable focus on education. “Our children need to be challenged while studying real-world solutions that our businesses are encountering,” he said. “When I attended school, we said prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance every day,” he added.

DeKruif and his wife of 32 years, Carol, have two adult children and one grandchild.

“I wonder what the world will be like in 20 years when my grandson enters the job market,” DeKruif said. “I feel obligated to run for Senate so our children and grandchildren can enjoy the freedoms our nation's founders intended for them.”

DeKruif was born and raised on a farm in southern Minnesota, where he says he learned strong work ethic and Christian values. He studied ag business management at the University of Minnesota-Waseca.

DeKruif’s 30-year-old business, DeKruif Enterprises, began with a focus in home and commercial construction and moved into working in the field of heavy hauling consultation. He and Carol have owned and operated Sakatah Trail Resort in LeSueur County for the past 14 years.
