NORTHFIELD — Every small town has an exceptionally rich history, but not every community gets to have that history hung on the walls of the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum.
In September, “20 Views of Dundas,” a series of prints commissioned by ArtOrg Executive Director Dave Machacek, was accepted into the Weisman Art Museum’s permanent collection.
Timed to coincide with Dundas’ sesquicentennial celebration, the project began in 2007, and wrapped up one year later.
As part of the series, area artists selected one aspect of Dundas’ history, relayed to them through stories, memories and photographs, and translated it into a single piece of art.
Working together with an art printer, those artists then created limited edition prints of each piece of art.
“It’s an interesting conceptual project, it has a lot of good artists from the region involved in it and it’s really about part of the history of Minnesota,” Weisman Director and Chief Curator Lyndel King said. td>

Although the project won’t be on display immediately at the museum, King said, it will be rotated in and out of the museum, which is located on the University of Minnesota’s campus in Minneapolis.
For Machacek, the project isn’t just a testament to the culture and history of Dundas, it’s also a nod to the local artists and organizations involved in the project.
“It’s not a single piece of work that goes into the museum, it’s actually 21 artists and printers represented,” Machacek said.
“It’s a really wonderful example of a collaboration.”
