The number one task for Minnesota, including District 25B (which runs from Northfield east to Lonsdale and Belle Plaine), is to get our people back to work. Republicans recognize the urgency of this requirement. In 2010 voters in our district should say “Yes” to our future and “No” to the discarded, liberal views of the past.
While there are some signs that the recession is ending, the recovery is largely “jobless” — the unemployment rate is not going down, and many economists expect it to continue rising. In a word, there are still too many people not working.
There are too many home forecloses; too many are unable to purchase private health care insurance and post-high school education for their children, and to save for retirement and emergencies. All this because they are not working. And while costs of living are going up, many unemployed may see jobless benefits disappearing. Presently, the unemployment benefits have been extended; this necessary action continues the drain on the Treasury and the growth of the huge debt while revenues from income and sales taxes continue to decline.
Republicans are knowledgeable about the kind of employers that would flourish here and create jobs and opportunities for our people. Further, Republicans have a plan and know how to create the environment that would attract such businesses. And Republicans can do this without mind-numbing taxes and crushing debt, which would be a burden to us and future generations.
District 25B is perfectly positioned to attract new businesses such as information technology data centers; research centers serving such domains as agriculture, medicine, public safety, public health, and alternate energy; software development companies; and resurgent manufacturing operations.
My Job and Opportunities Creation Plan for District 25B supports 21st century education particularly in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, agriculture, health care and public safety; tax reform that will enable individuals and families to provide for essentials and to keep more of their earnings; tax reform for businesses that, coupled with judicious public contributions, will encourage investments that will yield research and innovation that will grow jobs; modernization of road, bridge and data infrastructure; and modernization of state government by limiting government to what the Constitution and statutory law require and what the people can afford, by capping and then cutting spending and taxes, and by contemporary planning, budgeting and performance measurement methodologies. Republicans know what to do and how to do it.
It’s time for a change. Let’s get Minnesota working again; vote Republican in 2010.
