Sister M. Brigid Heffernan, 88

Sister M. Brigid Heffernan, SSND, age 88, formerly of Northfield, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Good Counsel Provincial House in Mankato.

Sister Brigid (Patricia Heffernan) was born Feb. 26, 1921, near Northfield, to F. Edward and Mary L. (Flynn) Heffernan. She attended Holy Rosary School and Northfield High School, graduating in 1938. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1938 and took First Vows in 1941. Sister Brigid taught upper grades and high school and served as administrator in several Minnesota and North Dakota schools. After retiring from full-time school service, she taught ESL and volunteered at Guadalupe Area Project in St. Paul.

Sister Brigid is survived by her sister, Elizabeth O’Connor of Simi Valley, Calif.; sister-in-law; nieces and nephews and their families; and sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Good Counsel Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at Good Counsel, with 7 p.m. Vespers. Visitation continues and one hour before services.
