NORTHFIELD — Eleven middle schoolers have been selected to participate in state honors choirs later this month. Ten of them attend Northfield. One is a student at Century in Lakeville.
According to NMS choral director Cathy Penning, students from all over the state sent audio auditions to a panel of judges in which they sang a scale and a selected piece without accompaniment. Judges then picked 80 to 90 of the best singers for three different choruses : Elementary Honors Choir fourth to sixth grade, Anacrusis Girls Honor Choir and Anacrusis Boys Honor Choir, both for seventh- and eighth-graders.

Penning said her students worked for hours to get their performances just right before audio taping them. Penning said it’s quite a coup to have 10 NMS students selected for the choir. Last year three of the school’s students were chosen.
Students selected are Sasha Middeldorp, Jack Lunderby, Madeline Ganey, Annika Johnson, Abby Stets, Samantha Ponder, Kurtis Bobert, Demitri Beeby, Brooke Domeier, Emma Kivell and Nick Meyers.
The choirs are set to perform Nov. 21 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi.
