Email Print
Florence Elizabeth Jacobsen, age 89, of Northfield, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.

Florence was born June 6, 1920, in Jeffers, Minn., the daughter of George and Rose (Schnellman) Barron. Florence began school in Jeffers and when her family moved to Windom in 1934 she attended Windom High School, graduating in 1938. Following school she moved to Northfield and lived with her older sister, Rose. There she met Sophus Peter “Jake” Jacobsen, and the couple was married on Jan. 1, 1941, in Northwood, Iowa.

Florence was a stay-at-home mom for a number of years, raising their only child, Charles. She also helped raise Nancy, daughter of Ed and Rita Edelbrock, who traveled often for work. As their son entered junior high school, Florence began working at Northfield Hospital as a nurse’s aid and later housekeeping. When she switched to part-time work she became the housekeeper for the Northfield Fire Department at the Safety Center.

Florence enjoyed fishing up north and going with her husband on hunting trips to Wyoming in earlier years. She loved to garden and enjoyed feeding the neighborhood cats.

Florence is survived by her son, Chuck (Sandy) Jacobsen of Northfield; special daughter, Nancy Edelbrock Dunigan of Chaska; and granddaughter, Lisa (Tracy) Hansen of Randolph. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sophus; and brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield with interment in the Northfield Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday.

Arrangements by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
