Raiders shut out at Faribault 3-0
Email Print
FARIBAULT — The Northfield girls hockey team hadn’t lost to Faribault in three years, but the streak ended Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders lost 3-0 to the Falcons in non-conference action at the Faribault Ice Arena. The game featured 17 penalties between the two teams, but all three goals were scored at even strength.

The last Falcons win over Northfield came Nov. 16, 2006 on the road by a 5-2 margin. On Saturday, despite being called for nine penalties — including five in the second period — FHS controlled tempo and never let the Raiders find the scoreboard.

Faribault scored at 8:59 of the first period to take the lead. The Falcons added two more in the third period as the Raiders couldn’t find the net.

Faribault out-shot Northfield 31-20 in the contest. Samantha Stark made 28 saves for the Raiders. The Raiders stormed the Falcons’ crease with 11 shots in the second period — many coming from point-blank range in the slot — but none found the net.

Northfield started Thanksgiving week on a much better note, opening Missota Conference play with a 2-1 overtime win over Shakopee. Annie Pumper netted both Raider goals. Look for that story in Saturday’s paper. The Raiders host Holy Angels in Missota Conference play next Tuesday.
