Mavis Karbo, 92

Mavis Adelaide Karbo, age 92, of Northfield, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at her home.

Mavis, the daughter of Charles and Martha (Goltz) Munson, was born Dec. 13, 1916, on the family farm in Lyon County, Minn. She was a graduate of Russell High School and Mankato Teachers College and taught at a rural one room school house for several years.

Mavis was united in marriage to Lawrence “Larry” Karbo on Dec. 29, 1940. He was an employee of what is now Wells Fargo. They lived and worked in Jeffers, Minn., Watertown, S.D., Billings, Mont., and Northfield. Larry preceded her in death in January 1980.

Mavis is survived by her five children, Loretta (David) Shenk of Niwot, Colo., Marlan (Gloria) Karbo of Minneapolis, Carolyn (Glenn) Lindroos of Northfield, Marilyn (Paul) Weiser of Northfield, and Ardella (Ron) Lagerquist of Minneapolis; ten grandchildren, Sonja Karbo, Jessice (Lucas) Myran, Erik Severson, Jon Severson, Mick (Jennifer) Seveson, Chris Weiser, Sean Weiser, Heidi (DavidJon) Finch, Charles Lagerquist, and Ben Lagerquist; one great-granddaugter, Karina Karbo; one great-grandson, Conner Myran; one step-grandson, Chad Lindroos; one step-granddaughter, Nicole (Chris) Pramas; one step-great-granddaughter, Kate; brother-in-law, Darrel Mitchell of Garvin, Minn.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Karbo of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Ruth Mitchell; brother, Irving Munson; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield, with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Interment will be held at a later date in the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton. Mavis has donated her body to Rochester Mayo for research and learning purposes.

Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Northfield Historical Society, Northfield Hospital Auxiliary or the donor’s choice.
