H1N1 vaccine continues to become more available in Rice County as well as across the state. An upcoming H1N1 vaccine clinic for those ages 6 months to 24 years old takes place from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Northfield Middle School, 2200 Division St. Enter at the pool entrance.
Dakota County also offers a clinic held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Western Service Center, 14955 Galaxie Ave., Apple Valley. No appointments will be taken for this clinic.
Clinics by appointment in Dakota County will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday at the County Administration Center in Hastings; from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Western Service Center in Apple Valley; and from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Northern Service Center in West St. Paul. To make an appointment, call 651-438-4777.
In accordance with guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health, the H1N1 vaccine is available to the following priority groups:
• Pregnant women • People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months • Health care and emergency medical services personnel • Persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years • People 25 through 64 who are at higher risk for novel H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems td>

Rice County Public Health is working to help ensure that vaccine is available to these priority groups. If you are included in one of these priority groups, call your health care provider for vaccine availability or Rice County Public Health at 507-332-6111 to schedule an appointment.
The clinic offers both the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine and the H1N1 injection (shot) to children ages 6 months to 24 years. Booster doses for children will also be available. Booster doses are recommended 4 weeks after the first dose for children ages 6 months through 9 years. We anticipate our vaccine supply to be adequate to serve those in this age group for both of these four hour clinics. To avoid waiting in long lines, please come anytime during the clinic hours but not more than 15 minutes prior to the clinic start time.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Vaccinations will not be given if currently ill. Bring insurance card, if available. Those who do not have insurance you can still be vaccinated at no charge. Be prepared to wait 15 minutes after a vaccination.
