| Malt-O-Meal acquires hot cereal brand |

Malt-O-Meal Company purchased the Farina Mills hot cereal brand from U.S. Mills earlier this month, in what a company spokesperson is calling a “tuck-in” acquisition.
Manager of Consumer Promotion Linda Fisher confirmed Thursday that the company acquired the product formula, name brand and existing inventory for the hot cereal, which was produced by U.S. Mills in Needham, Mass. Production of the cereal line, Fisher said, will move to the company’s Ames Mill facility in Northfield. The cereal will remain under the Farina Mills brand name.
Fisher described the purchase as a small, “tuck-in acquisition” that supports the company’s continued growth. It’s not likely that the acquisition will create more jobs at the company’s Ames Mill location, Fisher added.
“It adds to the portfolio and it supports our growth strategy to continue to grow as a provider of high quality and affordable cereal products, both hot and cold,” Fisher said.
The purchase of the Farina Mills brand this year is Malt-O-Meal’s first acquisition since 2002, when it bought a line of bagged cereals from Quaker Foods and Beverages.
