Beverly J. Blaness, age 84, of Northfield, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.

Beverly was born March 3, 1925, in Northfield, the daughter of Walter and Ella (Berg) Norbeck. She was raised in Northfield, baptized and confirmed at the Northfield Methodist Church, and attended Northfield Schools graduating in 1943. She began working in town at various jobs, eventually as a secretary at the W.T. Red Nelson Insurance Agency.

On May 18, 1952, Beverly was united in marriage to Bernard Blaness, and the couple made their home in Northfield. Beverly stayed home for a few years before returning to work again at the Red Nelson Agency where she continued for 40 years as the office manager. They traveled to Tahiti, Hawaii, Norway and England and took cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean.

Bev’s hands were never still and her creative talents gave many in her family beautiful quilts, pillows and clothing with fancy needlework. In Arizona where they attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church she was chairman of their annual Mission’s Bazaar and Craft Sale for many years.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 57 years, Benny; “adoptive” daughter Sally (Ken) Rud of Orono; and “adoptive” grandchildren, Leah (Benny) Richardson and Molly (Darren) Papstein.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Interment will be in the Northfield Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
